Israel, being a desert country, has at least 6 months a year of hot weather, but the winters (3 months’ duration) can get very, very cold, with snow on the mountaintops at various places. Hyperthermia is a real danger to anyone who lives on the street, homeless. However, hyperthermia can also occur inside a cold apartment with tile floors and insufficient weatherproofing. The situation is more extreme if an elderlyor disabled person gets hyperthermia inside their apartment.
New immigrants and refugees who ran for their lives to Israel, even though they might have had winter clothing in their country of emigration, came to Israel with only what they could carry in their arms many times, and are in great need of warm clothing and coats.
Israel Relief Aid’s Winter Warm Campaign aims to save lives and to warm up those that don’t have winter garments: coats, scarves, mittens, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. With your help, these are brought into Israel in containers for aid centers throughout the country.
